The Chiltern Hotel

My husband, The Kiwi, works long hours but his office has a fabulous half day Friday, which gives us a perfect opportunity to have a regular lunch date and a great excuse to check out all the local pub's. The first lunch date was at The Chiltern Hotel, chosen at random as it was the first pub we came across. The dining room is quite elegant, not the 'ye olde' traditional pub with exposed beams we were kind of expecting but very nice and understated. We had a lovely window seat, the service was good and we were surprised at the reasonable prices.

The lunch menu had lots to choose from, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads and some more substantial options. The daily special of a roast pork roll with apple sauce and wedges caught both our eyes. We don't eat much pork at home, as the teenager, when in Shanghai, saw one too many pigs being carted, on the back of a scooter into the school grounds to become lunch and now won't eat anything pig related!

What a fabulous choice, the meat moist and succulent, perfect amount of apple sauce served on a fresh baguette and the wedges were possibly the best I've ever had, crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. One serve would have fed us both but we both made a valiant effort and didn't leave too much behind. Was quite simply, delicious! The Kiwi had a Stella beer with his and I had a lime soda...someone had to drive. The bill came to the grand total of £14.90 what a bargain.

The Chiltern Hotel is a great spot for lunch, we will have to try the dinner menu soon. They have a nice lounge area for pre dinner drinks as well as charming garden setting with views of the Chiltern countryside, weather permitting of course. Accommodation is available.

I think we are going to enjoy our new Friday lunch date tradition!
